The hydraulic pump of an excavator is the core component of the hydraulic system, providing power to the entire system like a heart. It converts the mechanical energy of the engine into hydraulic energy, drives the hydraulic cylinder and hydraulic motor to work, and thus completes various actions of the excavator.

1、 Types of hydraulic pumps
Excavator hydraulic pumps are mainly divided into the following two categories:
Gear pump: With a simple structure, low cost, and strong anti pollution ability, but with large flow pulsation and high noise, it is mostly used in small excavators or auxiliary systems.
Piston pump: with complex structure and high cost, but high working pressure, large flow rate, high efficiency, and high control accuracy, it is widely used in medium and large excavators.

2、 Working principle of hydraulic pump
The working principle of hydraulic pumps is based on changes in volume. Taking plunger pump as an example:
Oil suction process: The plunger moves backwards, the pump chamber volume increases, forming a vacuum, and the hydraulic oil in the oil tank enters the pump chamber under atmospheric pressure.
Oil pressure process: The plunger moves forward, the pump chamber volume decreases, the hydraulic oil is compressed, the pressure increases, the oil outlet valve is pushed open, and high-pressure oil enters the hydraulic system.

3、 Performance parameters of hydraulic pump
Displacement: The volume of oil discharged by the pump shaft per revolution, measured in mL/r, determines the working speed and force of the excavator.
Pressure: The pressure of the oil at the pump outlet, measured in MPa, determines the working capacity of the excavator.
Rotational speed: The rotational speed of the pump shaft, measured in r/min, affects the flow rate and lifespan of the pump.
